Care Guide
Caring for Your Bespoke by Loretta Piece
Each Bespoke by Loretta bag is an investment in quality craftsmanship. With proper care, your piece will develop a beautiful patina and last for years — even decades. Here's how to keep each material looking its best.
Italian Leather
Italian leather is naturally durable and ages beautifully, but it benefits from regular care.
- Daily care: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and light surface dirt.
- Conditioning: Apply a small amount of leather conditioner every 3–6 months to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking. Avoid petroleum-based products.
- Water exposure: If your bag gets wet, blot — don't rub — with a dry cloth and allow it to dry naturally away from heat sources. Never use a hair dryer.
- Stains: Address spills immediately. For stubborn stains, consult a professional leather cleaner. Avoid household cleaners, alcohol, or acetone.
- Storage: Store in a dust bag or pillowcase in a cool, dry place. Stuff with tissue paper to maintain shape. Avoid plastic bags, which trap moisture.
Cork
Cork is a natural, water-resistant material that's easy to maintain.
- Cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap. Allow to air dry completely.
- Stains: Cork is naturally stain-resistant. For tougher marks, use a soft brush with mild soapy water.
- Avoid: Extended direct sunlight, which can fade cork over time. Keep away from sharp objects that may scratch the surface.
Pendleton Wool
Genuine Pendleton wool is durable and naturally repels moisture, but requires gentle handling.
- Spot cleaning: For spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub.
- Deeper cleaning: Spot clean with cold water and a tiny drop of wool-safe detergent. Allow to air dry flat.
- Avoid: Machine washing, wringing, or tumble drying. Heat will cause wool to shrink.
Waxed Canvas
Waxed canvas is naturally water-resistant and gets better with age and use.
- Cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth and cold water. Do not use soap — it strips the wax coating.
- Re-waxing: Over time the wax coating may wear in high-use areas. Re-wax with a canvas wax product to restore water resistance.
- Avoid: Machine washing, dry cleaning, and heat.
General Tips for All Bags
- Rotate your bags to allow leather and materials to rest and breathe.
- Keep away from prolonged sunlight, which fades most materials.
- Avoid overstuffing — it stresses seams and distorts the bag's shape.
- When in doubt, contact Loretta directly for care advice specific to your piece.
